The hotly anticipated second album from In This Moment has finally arrived, and have they fallen prey to second album syndrome? to a certain extent, yes. Fans of the metalcore elements of their debut are going to be rather disappointed with this CD, but if you enjoyed the more melodic aspects of 'Beautiful Tragedy' then you're in for a treat. 'The Dream' is a hard edged pop rock album that sees the band going in a much more commercial direction. The pop-punk chorus of 'Forever' (see video below) is ridiculously infectious, and the whole album is memorable, if nowhere near as heavy as the first one, which is a shame. Maria Brink's voice is put through less of a workout this time round, so those that didn't get along with her piercing screams before will find more to enjoy here.Sunday, 26 October 2008
