The metal world has been saddened by the loss of Midnight, former vocalist for the enigmatic Crimson Glory
. Midnight, whose real name was John MacDonald Jr, passed away from liver and kidney failure, surrounded by friends, family and bandmates. He was 47. Midnight leaves behind him a legacy that includes two of the most influential progressive metal albums of the 1980s, namely the debut self titled Crimson Glory album and its incredible follow up, 'Transcendence.'The man's amazing voice was remarkably emotive and powerful, as well as boasting one of the most striking ranges that has ever been heard in the metal scene. While the third album, 1991's 'Strange and Beautiful' was a different beast altogether in the face of changing trends, there are still some amazing performances from Midnight. He also rejoined Crimson Glory
in 2005 before parting ways with the band once again in 2007. There is no denying he was a troubled individual, but he was also an incredible artist who will be sorely missed by friends and family the world over.
